The New York Times declared 2012 as "The Year of the MOOC".  Certainly, MOOCs (Massively Open Online Courses) have been getting a lot of attention and stimulating conversations about the role of online education and technology in higher ed.  Their rapid growth has drawn both praise and skepticism from faculty, administrators, learners and governments.
